What is Fear?
We often think that we know what fear is as is lurks at our present's every waking moment. By definition, fear is an emotion caused by the belief that something or someone may or will cause harm to the said person. Now, as fear is a very touchy topic, let's start with the word belief.
I believe many things and will continue to develop more, but fear... fear is a different and nasty type of belief that can dictate our emotions, behavior, and appearance. There are many things to fear in this world, some being spiritual (paranormal as some may call it) physical, mental or emotional. A good example for me is my fear of bees. I fear that if a bee comes to close, he/she may automatically want to sting me. Now, of course you can say, no this is not true; bees usually sting when they sense harm themselves. So do bees fear? Interesting question actually. This induces the concept of whether an insect has emotions or even a soul, which most people have heard or been taught that animals, including insects, do not have souls. Of course biologists would argue that their tactic of stinging what seems of harm to the bee is a biological defense mechanism. How we can explain its true original nature... still untold and perhaps forever may be.
Let's change gears some. Spiritual fear. As I've grown older, I've become more of a spiritual person. Some of you may not want to continue reading after you see that I've used the word "spiritual" because perhaps I'm going to put my God on you. But that's defeats the purpose of why I'm writing this. This night, I will talk a little of spiritual fear and you will read my thought process as to why these things happen.
I've heard many things about human souls, ancestors, ghosts, demons and angels, but my understanding of the spiritual realm will grow as God wills it. I do not actively search for answers, just process what is exposed to me. Being as my father is a Paster of a Christian nondenominational church brings forth many battles and warfare which are greater than any basic human problem. We worry of the simple things of life such as credit cards, fashion, lust, incest, loyalty, dishonesty and the list goes on. But what is often forgotten is how minor our problems are compared to those spiritual wars fought in realms beyond human understanding.
I was told that knowing my ancestry is very important. To think that the souls of my ancestors live within me is a fearful yet interesting thought. It makes me wonder if it is true or if the only soul that resides in this being is my own and the spirit of the Lord. Now, as a young woman, I have chosen my faith and path educating myself of the world's many cultures and religions catered to each being. Can there live a Buddhists Christian... well I'm not opposed to that belief for the reason being that Buddhism is a way of life as well is Christianity. My belief in a higher power provides reason for my being, my actions, my morals and how I use my teachings to grow spiritually. But I digress. What I am truly suggesting is that, what if the occasional images, or figures that either projected from my mind or were actually there as a child were never there to bring fear to me as most media would propose, but instead they were my ancestors attempting to tell a young soul something of the past, present or future. Or to simply provoke a thought in me as it does now. Like I said, I will not and am not searching to actively conjure these spirits up, I'm simply just brainstorming. I have no questions to ask, no selfish desire to make them restless. I just believe that perhaps God wants me to understand that fear is dire emotion that can hurt me more than anything else in the world. That perhaps, instead of fearing everything, that I should humble myself to Thee and fear Him as I allow Him to deliver me from my hardships. There is no need to fear something if we do not understand it.
As I stated before, there are many different reasons to have fear or to develop it. I am not writing to tell you that you are wrong for having such fear nor am I telling you how to get rid of it since I'm still learning myself. But what I am hinting at, what if the things we fear will harm us actually won't. My example of the bee is a 50/50 chance, I just have to avoid aggravating the creature. I have not experienced everything in life, and others are more fortunate than the latter, but what is fear to you? And how do we deal with it?
